From Bedrooms to Billions, a British video game documentary
26/09/2014
From Bedrooms to Billions is a feature length documentary telling the story of the British video game industry from 1979 until the present day. It focusses on the creative individuals who made games mostly from their bedrooms, and how the industry that grew from those bedrooms blossomed into a thing worth bajillions of dollars.
One of those creative individuals making games back in the day was our very own Mark Healey, who features as part of this documentary. Most of you know that Mark used to work at Bullfrog on games like Dungeon Keeper and Theme Park. But before that he was coding, designing and arting up Commodore 64 and Spectrum games back in the late 80's and early 90's, when most of us other molecules were in school.
After successfully finding funding through Kickstarter, From Bedrooms to Billions is nearly ready for release and indeed premiered at EGX last night. It looks like a fascinating story, and one that's often overlooked in favour of the American and Japanese stories from the same era.
